Were you a dance choreographer in Kolkata?

I was born and raised in Kolkata. I worked for IT companies in Chennai, Port Blair and Bangaluru as their computer engineer. I worked with companies like IBM and later came to Mumbai to follow my dream to become a dance choreographer.

When did you decide to shift gears from IT companies to being a dance choreographer?

2007 is the year that I decided to join a dance school and learn various latin dance forms. On April 1st 2009, I decided to relocate from Bangaluru to Navi Mumbai and leave the corporate world behind me. I got associated with famous dance choreographers Kaytee and Shiamak Davar and learnt loads. Simultaneously, I decided to start my own dance school and conducted my fist class in September, 2009.

How did the journey continue?

My first dance class started with only 2 students and within a span of 6 months, I had 70 students learning Salsa from me. In 2010, I was appointed as an assistant dance choreographer and worked along side Norden from Belgium. We had to choreograph the opening act with 200 dancers for DLF IPL held at DY Patil stadium which indeed was my big break as a dance choreographer. At the same event, I partnered with another dancer and gave a dance performance while international singer Lionel Richie performed live. Later, I got associated with different esteemed schools where I wasn't only teaching dance but was involved in other creative programmes too.

Have you worked on any Bollywood movies?

No, not yet but recently I got the opportunity to set the dance choreography for 2 regional movies. The movie showcased songs sung by famous singers from the industry.

You are also a fitness guru?

Yes, and for that I had to undergo 2 months of studies related to fitness. I also had to take an exam so to get certified from Reebok and start my journey as a fitness guru. I have learnt different exercise forms from Pilates, Aerobic, Metabolic training and Bokwa which I teach at my fitness studio.

You are a part of Niche Academy and what do your students have to look forward too?

As a fitness guru I always tell my students "Re-sculpt to the best version of yourself".

What does dance and fitness mean to you?

Dance is my life and fitness is my breath.
